Entertaiment is a broad category, encompassing such diverse activities as sports, games, theater, dance, music, literature, cinema, television, and branded entertainment. It also encompasses the many ways in which these activities are presented – from private amusements for an individual, to parties adapted for two people, to performances for thousands of spectators. In the process, entertainment has absorbed and been influenced by cultural traditions from throughout the world. The word entertains has the Medieval Latin root intertenere, meaning “to hold inside.”
